Career Catalyst was created by Emily Frank, (Hokkaido ’93-’96) who is a professional career counselor with over 20 years of experience, much of it helping JET alums figure out their next chapters. She has a passion for working with people with international experience, creative people, and those transitioning to new roles. Her practice covers deeply personal topics like identity and finding meaning, as well as such nitty-gritty things like resumes and salary negotiation
Her undergrad degree is in East Asian Studies and her M.A. is in professional counseling. She calls Denver home, but works with people all over the world. I wish to provide information about my company and I am seeing potential clients.

The Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle assists Japanese nationals living in Washington, Montana, and Northern Idaho and works together with local communities to promote Japanese culture and facilitate a variety of exchanges. As the official representative of the Government of Japan in this region, the Consulate strives to strengthen bonds of mutual friendship and understanding between Japan and its neighbors in the Northwest. GPI US aims to empower today’s youth to thrive in a global world through educational study abroad programs. Hoshu Dojo is a group of dojos in Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, and Vancouver, BC, that practice ZNKR Jodo, Shindo Muso Ryu Jojutsu and Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu. The Seattle and Vancouver branches focus on Shindo Muso Ryu and ZNKR Jodo, while the Portland branch also includes Daito Ryu. Since 1959, Tacoma and Kitakyushu, Japan have built one of Tacoma’s longest-standing international friendships through cultural, educational, civic, and people-to-people exchange.
Today, the Tacoma–Kitakyushu Sister City Committee brings that 65+ year relationship to life locally. Our work includes community cultural events such as Tacoma’s annual Children’s Day celebration, educational and cultural partnerships, exchanges with Kitakyushu, and stewardship of the historic Japanese shrine gifted to Tacoma in 1961.

The University of Washington’s Japanese Program in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Japanese language, literature, film, and applied linguistics, including Japanese language pedagogy. The Washington Association of Teachers of Japanese was founded in November 1991 with the goal of promoting and providing high-quality Japanese language education in Washington state.
